Judging by how many people spotted this on the news last night, this particular Garda vehicle caused a bit of fuss last night. But it’s not as bad as it looks.

Nobody likes paying their road tax but with checkpoints popping up all over the place, it is just not worth the risk to drive around with an out-of-date disc these days.

There does seem to be the odd exception though. Like this.

Spotted by lots and lots of people on the RTE News last night, this Garda motorbike’s tax has clearly been out for over two months now.

This isn’t as bad as it seems though. Garda vehicles are exempt from paying road tax and if we could see it, this disc would have a value of €0 on it as it is just issued by the Motor Tax Office for free. However, the Road Traffic Act requires every vehicle to have a tax disc on display so that’s why Garda vehicles, and buses, and any other state vehicle has a tax disc.

So this isn’t a case of a Garda not paying their bill but it is a case of a bit of slow administration. We’re sure the correct disc is in the post…
