Pic: Australian paper mistakes Louis van Gaal for Harold Bishop from Neighbours

The resemblance is uncanny in fairness.

The uncertainty over whether or not he’s going to get the Manchester United job (it now looks as if it’s a done deal) must have had Louis van Gaal tearing his hair out in the last couple of weeks, but stressful as it must be, we doubt it’s caused him to look as haggard and glum-looking as he did in Australian newspaper MX this morning. The man in the picture, of course, is not Van Gaal, but Harold Bishop, the well-known character from Aussie soap Neighbours, one of two mistakes (at least we think that 'Goal' is meant to be 'Gaal') made in an MX article about the impending appointment of the Dutchman as the new Manchester United manager. With Van Gaal reportedly keen on bringing in his own backroom team it is as yet unclear as to what role current interim boss and United legend Ryan Giggs will play in the new set-up, but surely if the Welshman spends enough time in Van Gaal’s company in the Old Trafford dugout, then good neighbours will become good friends. While we got a great kick out of this particular case of mistaken identity, it still lags behind our favourite ever Neighbours-related football reference, which, of course, was when ex-Liverpool flop Milan Jovanovic was referred to as ‘one of the greatest soccer players in the world’.
