Sadly this is the closest we are going to get to Irish participation at this year’s World Cup…

Thanks to eagle-eyed JOE reader, and world traveller, Ciarán Flynn for this picture. Ciarán is currently knocking around Brazil and as he was flicking through a magazine he spotted a very familiar sight.

This ad is for a company called Wise Up, the official English language school of World Cup 2014. As a result they get to carry the official World Cup logo and they are running a big campaign to encourage Brazilians to learn English so they can communicate with many of the visitors headed their way this summer.

But what caught Ciarán’s eye was the stadium that was chosen in the background of the ad. Did they pick any of their own famous stadia? No. Did they pick Wembley, Camp Nou or the Allianz Arena? No. Instead, Aviva Stadium pops up as the backdrop for the ad.

With many Brazilians making Ireland their home in recent years, perhaps we are a bigger deal over there than we think.
