Pic: Garth Crooks had an interesting explanation for Wayne Rooney’s inclusion in his Team of the Week

Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week selections are pretty baffling most weeks, but his explanation for Wayne Rooney’s inclusion this week takes the biscuit.

Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week selections are pretty baffling most weeks, but his explanation for Wayne Rooney’s inclusion this week takes the biscuit.

Nobody, of course, could argue with Rooney’s selection on the Team of the Week this week. He scored twice and was man of the match in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Spurs at White Hart Lane, maintaining the rich vein of form he has been in all season.

Rather than talk about Rooney’s goals, his drive or his industry, however, Crooks went off on a tangent that was positively Partridge-esque when explaining why he picked him in his best XI this week on the BBC website.

Putting aside the bizarre exchange between Crooks and his Uncle Ben for a second, we should point out that they had that conversation a full day before Man United’s game with Spurs, so does that mean that Crooks would have picked him even if he had a stinker yesterday?

Maybe Uncle Ben should have taken that glass of champers out of his hand even sooner.

Party on Garth!
