A fifth world title fell to the Rocket last night, and the London Times produced a classic headline for the occasion.
Despite not picking up a cue in competition for almost 12 months, Ronnie O’Sullivan returned to the world of snooker at the World Championships and went all the way to the final.
There he faced final debutant Barry Hawkins and while the inexperienced Hawkins put up a more than admirable fight, O’Sullivan was in sublime form at times over the two days of the match.
Ronnie hit six centuries over the course of the 30 frames and he always held Hawkins at arm’s length as he went on to win 18-12 yesterday evening.
After a post-match interview that was a bit salty for pre-watershed viewing (check it out here) the papers went off to write their stories on the greatest world championship performance ever.
Such epic snooker skills required an epic headline and the London Times did not disappoint with this effort.
