Pic: Yes, that’s David Rudisha in a Clare GAA jersey with his Olympic gold medal

Usain Bolt has been associated with an awful lot of counties at this stage, but his fellow Olympic gold medallist David Rudisha has nailed his colours firmly to the Clare mast ahead of the All-Ireland Hurling Final replay.

Some say that the current Clare hurling team are one of the fittest teams ever seen in the GAA, but they’d do well to keep up with this fella if he ever turned up at training, especially if they were covering distances of 800 metres or so.

Fresh from an appearance in Galway to pay tribute to Irish trainer Colm O’Connell in recent days, the Kenyan athlete – currently the Olympic and World 800 metre champion and the holder of the 800 metre world record – turned up at the Ennistymon Vocational School’s hospice coffee morning this morning and was duly presented with a Clare jersey upon his arrival.

We dare say the locals would be more impressed with a winning All-Ireland medal than the Olympic one that Rudisha had in his possession while visiting the Banner County, but who knows, maybe Davy could be persuaded to throw him on as a sub in the replay against Cork on Saturday week and he’ll get his hands on a Celtic Cross as well.

Hat-tip to Halimah Heaslip for sending this one into us
