By this stage, most people know that the new Pope is a fairly big football fan and supports a team from his local area in Buenos Aires, San Lorenzo.

San Lorenzo de Almagro, to address them by their proper title, are in the Argentine Primera Division are no stranger to having holy fans.

In fact, in Spanish the club are known as los cuervos which means “the crows” since they have so many followers who are priests and dress in black, as well as los santos which means “the saints”.

Yesterday during his Easter Urbi et Orbi blessing, Pope Francis was greeted by a huge crowd, one of whom presented him with a jersey of his beloved San Lorenzo.
