Few would argue that the Dublinbikes have been anything but a welcome addition for folks trying to make their way around the capital and the good news is there are more bikes and stations on the way.
The Dublinbikes might not be fast enough to compete in the Tour de France or anything like that, but they are a cheap, convenient and highly effective way for people in Dublin to travel across the city and have been a hugely successful initiative since the introduction of the scheme in 2009.
The number of bikes available to Dublin residents was recently boosted from 450 bikes at 40 stations to 550 bikes at 44 locations and this weekend it was revealed that the scheme will expand even further, with a further 950 new bicycles and an additional 58 new hire points to be introduced.
The area covered by the new hire points will expand further in every direction, with points soon to be available at Heuston Station and the Dublin Docklands, for example, as well as South Circular Road and James’ Street.
A map of the new locations was posted on Twitter by Councillor Andrew Montague earlier today and you can pick out the soon to established hire points that will closest to where you live via the green dots; the orange dots represent the hire points already in place.
