London have had a great summer to date, but the challenge of Mayo proved one step too far

Mayo claimed yet another Connacht title today with a glut of goals against London. It looked like it wasn’t going to be much of a contest once Mayo scored the opening goal through Alan Freeman, as they began to impose their physicality, and once the second went in from Darren Coen, London began to look a bit lost.

However, they did have a chance to score a goal themselves in the first half which the referee ruled out, but it looked like it may well have been a 50/50 ball that was there for the taking. It wasn’t to be however, as they went in down 2-06 to 0-05 at the half, which was all too much for one young London fan.

Paul Geraghty got a yellow card for a big hit at the start of the second half that looked more like a rugby tackle than anything else, and Mayo proceeded to tack on a few more points at a steady rhythm. Cillian O’Connor slotted home the third having been subbed on at the break, and the game was really done and dusted then.

O’Connor scooped the Man of the Match award as a result of his display, as he went on to score two more goals, grabbing a hat-trick and showing no mercy in front of goal.

The final score was 5-11 to 0-10, however Mayo could have had many more points had they looked to finish their points with a bit more accuracy instead of focusing on goal.
