A theme park had to carry out an urgent redesign of a roller-coaster which cost almost €24million after dummies returned from a test run missing their arms and legs.

The Daily Mail reports that Thorpe Park in England have said that they needed to take “drastic measures” when a number of dummies were left “visibly damaged” after they were exposed to some of the extreme near-miss spots on the roller-coaster.

They said that the dummies had experienced a “terrifyingly close call” on a test run for the park’s newest roller-coaster, which opens to the public in less than two months.

'The Swarm' roller-coaster was designed to take adrenaline junkies “through the sky on its mission of complete annihilation.” Extreme.

The ride has been created on its own island inside the park and takes thrill-seekers past a life-size church and wreckages of a plane and helicopter at breakneck speeds. The dummies on the test run of the ride were damaged when the roller-coaster took them way too close to the church.

An emergency response team was called in immediately to work on the ride ahead of the grand opening in March.

“We have been planning for 'The Swarm' for almost two years now, and we’ve pushed the boundaries to the absolute limit because “extreme” is what our thrill-seeking customers demand,” said Mike Vallis, the divisional director for the theme park.

We wonder why a theme park is so open about admitting to one of their rides being, essentially, a death trap. Could this be a ploy to monger up a bit of publicity?

Thorpe Park previous made the headlines for inviting members of the public to donate urine in order to create a “stench” for its horror maze SAW Alive. It also banned roller-coaster fans from putting their hands in the air due to body odour.

At the moment the park claims that the problem with 'The Swarm' ride has been fixed, but even still, we don’t think we’ll be chancing it any time soon. We happen to value our limbs.
