For a while it looked like the big news about Cristiano Ronaldo this summer might revolve around his latest haircut, but he has managed to grab the headlines today with a tweet about his new contract with Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to Twitter today to issue a statement saying that all the rumours regarding his contract renewal with Real Madrid are false, and it’s certainly one of the most interesting tweets he’s sent out in recent memory.
All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false.

Ronaldo’s contract runs out in 2015, and this has really thrown the cat among the pigeons after it seemed that it was a nailed on certainty that he wouldn’t be moving anywhere.
While Monaco have been mentioned, and it seems they’re willing to throw silly money at him, Spanish sports daily Marca reported just a few days back that he was to be offered what they were calling the “deal of the century”, so clearly the issue isn’t money.
For his part, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has spoken to Marca to assure fans that his main interest is to ensure that Ronaldo stays at Madrid, and becomes a club legend in the mold of Alfredo Di Stefano. “Both I and Madrid wants it [him to renew], and Cristiano, the player, wants it”.
