RTÉ is looking into the legality of a service that allows people to watch the country’s terrestrial television channels without the need for a television licence.
MagnetWebTV offers live web streams of RTE 1 and 2, TV3 and 3e, and TG4 without the need to pay TV licence fees.
The website also offers streams of other channels such as the BBC and MTV.
Our national broadcaster is believed to be “reviewing” the legality of MagnetWebTV.
They claim their service is legal under 2009 legislation but its increasing popularity could impact negatively on RTÉ’s revenues from licence fees, the paper reports.
