Leinster boss Joe Schmidt has said he expects to know next week if he is to succeed Declan Kidney as Ireland head coach.

The New Zealander would be a popular choice and confirmed on The Late Late Show last night that talks with the IRFU had gone well and a decision will be made in the coming days.
“We had a really good chat,” he told Ryan Tubridy. “To be honest they know me pretty well and I know them pretty well.”
“Whoever gets the job it’s a super job. It’s one of the big jobs in rugby and for me one of the things that it would allow is… week to week it’s a seven-day working week for me at the moment.”
Schmidt was on the show speaking about epilepsy, discussing his nine year-old son Luke’s experiences with the condition, but the topic of the Ireland management vacancy was inevitably brought up.
He believes that a national role would give him more time flexibility to help out at home, something that really appeals to him at the moment.
“Just with a national team when the team are in camp it’s very, very busy but it would give me a little bit of flexible time and available time to help and support Luke and certainly my wife in looking after him,” he added.
The Leinster boss said he expects a decision by the end of next week.
We can’t imagine too many dissenting voices should the Kiwi be chosen as the man to succeed Kidney.
