The Irish government are looking for someone to hack their computers, but only as a test to see how IT staff cope with such an assault.
Budding hacktivists who have a few gripes with the government can relax as The Department of Communications are looking for someone to provide a “structured cyber-exercise” to test out key staff who deal with sorting out this type of attack. So no random DOS attacks, please.
The department is issuing a tender for a one day “national structured cyber-exercise” and the successful bidder will have to compile a report that includes recommendations and “lessons learned”, according to the Irish Independent.
Basically, they’re looking for a company to come in and show the department’s IT guys what to do when the sh*t hits the cyber fan and the tender also states that “The players should also be subjected to simulated media pressure”.
So they’re really going all out to make sure government websites are nice and secure if such an attack actually did happen.
Bids for the tender are due by April 16.
