An interesting game from Mayo has been getting a bit of attention online today, after it emerged that not just one but both goalkeepers got their names on the scoresheet.

Ballyheane B and Conn Rangers B drew 4-4 in a fairly exciting sounding game on Saturday, in a Mayo League One match.

The circumstances of the goals couldn’t have been much more dramatic either, as it turns out that both goals came from the keepers very late on in the game.

Conn Rangers’ goalkeeper Micahel Melody scored a pretty special goal, winning an aerial challenge, drifting past a defender, and then trying his luck, only to see the ball slot into the bottom corner from 35 yards to draw the game level.

Melody told The Mayo News: “I had a bit of a distance to travel all right! I beat their striker in a header and went past their midfielder. I got to the halfway line and there was 20 yards in front of me. So I kept going and hit it as hard as I could. It went in the bottom corner [and] I went mental!”

The drama wasn’t over at that point though, as Rangers took the lead through Shane Maughan, and they must have thought they had the game wrapped up.

Still, there was another twist in the tale as Ballyheane unleashed their secret set piece weapon, goalkeeper Karl Cafolla, who stepped up to take a free kick in the 93 minute of the match, which curled over the wall and earned a draw.

Peter Schmeichel, eat your heart out.
