Oh to be a fly on the wall in this Californian household after a husband unwittingly sold his wife’s $23,000 wedding ring for just $10.

Eric Cloutier had some serious explaining to do to his other half Racquel when she returned home from hospital after giving birth to their fifth child to find her $23,000 wedding ring was gone.

Eric had attended the annual garage sale in the community and thought he would offer an old ring box he saw lying around the house. Little did he know that his wife Racquel had placed the wedding ring inside the box before going to hospital for safekeeping.

“Every year our community holds a garage sale. I was in the hospital, I just had a baby, so my husband thought it would be fun for my other kids if they could sell some things at the garage sale,” Racquel told ABC News.

“He didn’t know that before I went to the hospital, I put my ring in that box. I wanted the ring to be in a safe place and out of reach from my 2-year-old twins.”

Racquel has said that Eric “feels terrible” for what happened, after the ring was inadvertently bought by a blonde woman who was at first unsure if she would even buy the watch box.

“If you’re honest, you’re honest. Clearly, the ring was in the box by accident,” she added.

Eric did not make any comment. Our guess is that he has not being allowed outside the house since his grave error and has been grovelling ever since.
