Sundae Supplement: Rooney a goner to the Gunners?

Unsurprisingly, Wayne Rooney’s name is at the centre of all the transfer gossip today, while a host of clubs are trying to get their greedy hands on our own James McCarthy.

With Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Scholes about to head off into the sunset a grimy, wet and miserable Manchester backdrop in retirement, today is bound to be an emotional day at Old Trafford and we wonder what, if any, part Wayne Rooney will have to play in it all.

The 27-year old has played his part in this year’s league title triumph but has not been as crucial to the cause as in recent years and with word on the street suggesting he has already asked to leave, his appearance or non appearance today might give a clue as to his future intentions.

The Daily Star have jumped the gun and suggested that Arsenal might be a surprise destination for the striker and that the Gunners will make a £25 million bid seemingly on the basis that Arsene Wenger is ‘an admirer’ of the England man. We won’t be checking Rooney’s Twitter bio to see if he’s added Arsenal player just yet thank you very much.

Closer to home, it is the future of James McCarthy that is of more interest to Irish fans and we would be surprised if there aren’t a number of clubs forming an orderly queue for the 22-year old’s services such have been his commanding performances in recent weeks.

Whether Wigan stay up or not, McCarthy looks like he will be a man on the move and The Sunday People suggest that Spurs are ready to come in with a £10 million bid, which sort of makes sense considering that Sandro, yes Sandro, has been a huge loss since picking up an injury earlier in the season.

There has been quiet word of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea as well so watch this space.

James McCarthy might soon find himself on a more level playing field with the likes of Yaya Toure

What would also make sense from a Spurs point of view is the acquisition of a striker because Lord knows you can only rely on Jermain Defoe’s predictability, Emmanuel Adebayor playing well close to new contract time and Gareth Bale rescuing you in the last-minute for so long.

The Sunday Mirror think that Christian Benteke is the man to cure what ails Spurs and that they have made a man who has been called ‘a beast’ possibly more than any other player this season their number one target in the summer.

The weather outside is making us dream of a summer getaway to Spain so while it’s on the brain, we might as well discuss matters from that part of the world and specifically Madrid. Falcao is going to be more sought-after than a few days of sunshine in Ireland over the summer and various reports indicate that Monaco might be an unlikely destination for the Colombian goal-getter.

They do have the cash after all and there is talk of a £50 million bid, which would certainly have Roman Abramovich clambering to add an extra yacht or two to his offer to seal a move to West London.

One man who is almost certainly coming to West London is Jose Mourinho and The Sunday Mirror are suggesting that he is going to bring Sami Khedira with him. With Dimitar Berbatov already residing in that part of the world, that will be two men who look like the closest thing to deadly assassins hanging around Harrods so at least the streets should be safer as a result.

There’s a whole big load of sports on the box today, which means there’ll be no time for any of that cooking nonsense, so why not head on over to our friends at Supermacs and get some grub sorted? They’ve even gone and gotten you a discount, just click on the logo below.
