Today is, of course, April Fools’ Day, and the internet has been sent into a frenzy with people trying to pull off some great pranks.

If today has proved anything, it’s that often reality can be stranger than fiction, with Sunderland actually appointing Paolo Di Canio (unless that is a truly brilliant prank from them), but there were still some decent efforts out there all the same.

For the video games fans out there, a few of you might have been taken in by the “iPlay”, Apple’s newest device which would see them making their way into the games market. Here’s the promotional video, where they tell you about all the games you can get, like Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space…

Gerry Adams tried to fool everyone by saying the government had collapsed and that the lads in Labour had gone to chat to Enda about the serious business of a general election, but not a huge amount of people bought it. Adams’ Twitter feed is strange enough every other day of the year, so this was almost normal from the Sinn Fein leader.

The rumour mill in the football world was in overdrive today, and the lads at talkSPORT went to a decent amount of effort to come up with this video, where they claim Abramovich has named himself as the next Chelsea manager, having tried to buy his coaching badges and attended a VIP course with Gareth Southgate.

There was also a rumour that Arsenal were going to spend £70 million on Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski and Mario Götze and Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, but we knew this was a joke as soon as we heard that Arsenal were going to spend money.

As usual, those fun loving pranksters who run one of the biggest companies in the world, Google, had plenty of jokes to fill the day, including the new product Google Nose, where you can search smells. It promises to answer important questions such as “What does a ghost smell like?”.

They also claimed that YouTube was going to shut down for ten years to find the best video ever, and they’d finally given Gmail a revolutionary make over by making Gmail Blue, where everything was blue.

Twitter weren’t going to miss out on the fun either, claiming they were eliminating vowels from their new service called Twttr, and if you wanted to use them, you’d have to fork over $5 a month.

Good to see that the most powerful man in the world has a sense of humour too, as the folks at the White House posted this “Special Message From the President” on their website ealier, although it actually features popular YouTube character Kid President.

Decent efforts all round, and we definitely weren’t caught out by any of these, in case anyone asks.
