The brilliant video tribute to Manchester United’s Class of ’92 at the PFA awards

If you’re a Manchester United fan, you’ll love this.

If you’re a Manchester United fan, you’ll love this.

There was other stuff that happened at the PFA awards on Sunday night apart from Reginald D Hunter and Gareth Bale. The Special Merit award is handed out by the Players Union to celebrate an extraordinary achievement or effort by an individual.

In a small change, this year the PFA went with a team, the Manchester United youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1992. That team became the basis of Manchester United’s success from the mid-90s onwards and it featured the likes of David Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs, players who would go on to become club legends. It also featured Robbie Savage and Keith Gillespie, who weren’t bad players either, while Phil Neville and Paul Scholes arrived on the scene the following year.

Before the award was handed out, a mini-film on the team was shown and it is class. Featuring interviews with all the big names of that team, plus some of those who didn’t make it as pros, it is fascinating to see them talk about that period in their careers. It also has some great archive pictutres and footage of them in action and interviews with some of the senior players at Old Trafford at the time like Bryan Robson, as well as Alex Ferguson.

One word of advice, skip to 1.30 to avoid Gordon Taylor talking rubbish.

Even if you’re not a United fan, you have to be in awe of the talent that United brought through at that time.
