There's a lotta fresh faces in the Ireland squad
Wes Hoolahan, Ciaran Clark, Shane Duffy, Conor Clifford? Suddenly what had looked like a very unappealing friendly against Greece has just got interesting.
All of the players mentioned above have been included in a provisional 26-man squad to face the Greeks in two weeks time, although providing there are no injuries between now and then, three members of the squad will be cut before the squad gather on November 11.
Shane Long and Robbie Keane are conspicuous by their absence from the squad, but Long was not considered due to injury (strained hamstring) while Trap is obviously sparing Robbie the transatlantic trip for a midweek friendly and will choose between Kevin Doyle, Simon Cox and Jonathan Walters for the forward spots.
The Irish manager was believed to be on the verge of losing his job in the wake of the humiliating defeat to Germany earlier this month and the selection of the likes of Hoolahan, Clifford, Duffy and Clark suggests he has finally been listening to calls to blood new players in the green jersey.
The next step is actually giving them game time against Greece next month, but at least this is a start.
