Irish TDs and senators put the liquid into liquidation after the Dáil bar bill was revealed for that important night in February.

The Sunday Independent yesterday obtained figures from the private bar in the Dáil for the night that the crucial Anglo liquidation bill was defeated on February 6th.

It is only natural for a group of Irish people to discuss any issue over a drink or two, and 200 drinks were consumed on the night, with Guinness, lager and quarter bottles of wine the main tipples of choice.

The landmark decision by the Government to kill Anglo was the final nail in the coffins of the discredited banks, Anglo Irish and Irish Nationwide, which together saddled the State with debts of €30.6bn.

‘Prom Night’ as it has been called saw a total of €1,700 put on the tab behind the bar with 81 pints of stout, 73 pints of lager, nine pints of Smithwicks and 36 quarter bottles of wine consumed. The following night was a much tamer affair with just €501 put onto the bill.

Suggestions that Brian Cowen arrived in for a night-cap of his own are believed to be simply speculation!
