Transfer Talk: Man United and Liverpool won’t take no for an answer and Kevin Doyle’s Hoops Dreams still alive

Barcelona and Liverpool maintain that Cesc Fabregas and Luis Suarez are absolutely not for sale but that hasn’t put off Man United or Arsenal while a Kevin Doyle move to Celtic remains a possibility.

You probably remember wanting something really badly when you were younger, wanting it so badly in fact that you would continuously ask for it from your parents despite them saying repeatedly saying no in the hope that they would eventually relinquish and give you want you want.

Transfer negotiations between some of the biggest European clubs should really be conducted with a little more professionalism than that, but it is that type of conversation that appears to be taking place between Manchester United and Barcelona over Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool and Arsenal over Luis Suarez. Oh please. C’moonnnnnnn.

Nearly all of today’s papers report new Barca manager Geraldo Martino saying that Cesc Fabregas will not be sold at any price, yet that hasn’t stopped the Daily Mail from saying that the Premier League Champions will return with a club record bid next week.

Liverpool are taking a similar stance to Barcelona over unsettled striker Luis Suarez and are understandably not keen to sell him to a Premier League rival, but the Mirror reckon that Arsene Wenger will play the waiting game in his efforts to snap up the Uruguayan, an approach that will hardly go down well with Arsenal fans who are growing impatient with the lack of new arrivals as it is.

Suarez and Fabregas are well into the ‘saga’ phase already and another man in that category is Gareth Bale, but not for much longer if this morning’s papers are to be believed. The Sun say that Bale has already told Spurs he wants a move and The Star report that Madrid have told Bale that ‘it’s now or never’. Factor into the equation that Real normally end up getting what they want and it doesn’t look too good for Spurs fans.

Elsewhere, fresh from being told that he’s well down the pecking order at a League One club by new Wolves boss Kenny Jackett, the Daily Mail say that Kevin Doyle is being lined up for Celtic in a move that would greatly please the club’s large following over here while hopefully giving the Wexford man the boost his career badly needs right now.

Manchester United’s so far unsuccessful forays into the transfer market has helped take some of the limelight off Manchester City, who have been quietly ushering in some impressive looking new arrivals, who, according to the Daily Mirror, could soon be joined by Real Madrid defender Pepe, a man widely known for his gentlemanly conduct on the pitch. Oh wait.

Finally, PSG have said that midfielder Marco Verratti is not for sale despite interest from Napoli and Manchester United (TalkSport), Scott Sinclair could be leaving Manchester City for one of West Ham, Southampton and Everton (The Sun and the Metro), Arsenal will have to pay big bucks for Brazilian Bernard (The Sun) and West Ham are looking to sign former Chelsea attacker Salomon Kalou (Express).
