The morning papers reckon that Manchester United want Bale as well as Baines and Everton might be about to persuade Aiden McGeady to switch Moscow for Merseyside.

There hadn’t been an awful lot of talk of a Leighton Baines move to Manchester United doing the rounds – in this transfer window at least – before yesterday, but nobody was really surprised when David Moyes went back to his old club in search of his trusty left-back.

Word on the street yesterday was that United made a bid of around £12 million for the mop-top full-back and although Everton say he’s not for sale at any price, The Sun reckon that simply means that United will have to pay around £16 million for their first major signing of the summer.

As well as Baines, the Daily Star seem to think that United want to further bulk-up their left-footed armoury with a move for Gareth Bale, but only if a move for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo falls through. Seeing as Bale himself is coveted by Real Madrid there appears to be a bit of a Bale tug of war going on, with imminent Spurs arrival Paulinho claiming that he has been assured that the Welsh wonder will in fact remain at White Hart Lane.

Finally on Bale, in the Sun, Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle is urging him to stay in England and that if he is to move, he would be better off in rainy Manchester than sunny Madrid. Hmmm.

A man whose links with Manchester United seem to have gone cold is Robert Lewandowski but don’t give up on him moving to the Premier League just yet because The Daily Mirror say that Jose Mourinho will try and bring him to Chelsea if they can’t secure the signature of Uruguay international Edinson Cavani.

Cavani has also been linked with a move to Manchester City, but The Independent think that they might try and recruit Bayern Munich goal-poacher and George McFly lookalike Mario Gomez instead to replace Carlos Tevez, who could soon be joined at Juventus by Aleksandar Kolarov if The Guardian are to be believed.

The Guardian also say that Swansea are going all out to take Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem, who have denied that a deal is already in place. Much like Everton saying Leighton Baines is not for sale at any price, that declaration should be taken with a pinch of salt, so don’t be surprised if both players end up moving on before the start of next season.

Speaking of Everton, there’s an interesting story in the Daily Mail saying that they are ready to terminate Aiden McGeady’s mission to Moscow and bring him to the Premier League for around £6million and considering that McGeady has been rather open about his desire to move closer to home, that one could be a runner alright.

Finally, West Brom are willing to finally give Scott Sinclair some game time by taking him on loan from Manchester City, Arsenal are unlikely to sign Ashley Williams from Swansea unless they pay the £10 million asking price (The Times) and young Barcelona prospect Gerard Deulofeu is being targeted by a host of English clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton (Mundo Deportivo).
