The legacy of Margaret Thatcher has been shown by the amount of activity on social media today.

In particular, critics of her policies have been very vociferous today, one of the most vocal being Frankie Boyle, a man who’s not too shy of voicing his opinion at the best of time, and he certainly didn’t mince words.

For a city that was particularly effected by her policy and remembers her poor handling of the Hillsborough affair, strangely those in Liverpool had something else on their minds today.

Colm Tobin, who can always be relied on to put things in perspective, perhaps summed up where Thatcher lies in the hearts of the Irish people.

The controversial topic of her having a state funeral was addressed by many on Twitter, and tongue was firmly in cheek for many of them.

It is, of course, a hugely controversial topic to be discussing the life and times of Margaret Thatcher on a day charged with emotion like this, so perhaps, for absolutely no reason at all, the final word should be left with the suitably surreal tweet of former professional WWF wrestler Iron Shiek.
