Nearly 50 but still got it.
The name Gheorge Hagi might not mean much to young football fans but those of us lucky enough to see him in his prime know that the former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Galatasaray man was one of the most exciting players to watch in the 1990s.
He showed that he hasn’t lost it when playing for Galatasaray in a recent veterans match against Barcelona with an amazing piece of skill to pull off what was, admittedly, a fairly run of the mill 15-yard pass on the far touchline.
Hagi’s best days might be behind him but his son Ianis is already making waves in youth football circles and if he turns out to be anything like the auld fella, a new generation of football fans will be able to appreciate some more Hagi brilliance for years to come.
