A weekend barely goes by without a goalkeeper venturing forward in what is usually a vain attempt to be a hero, but one of them actually managed to score a last-minute equaliser at the weekend.
As much as everyone loves to see a goalkeeper make the long journey into the opposition box in the last minute to try and grab a last-ditch equaliser, neither of the eventualities that most neutrals want to see happen – the ‘keeper scoring a goal or the opposition scoring at the other end while he’s on the way back – barely ever happen in reality.
Every now and again, however, the journey is not made in vain and so it proved at the weekend when Philipp Tschauner of St Pauli scored a last-minute equaliser against Paderborn in a German second division clash.
If we were being critical, we would point out that the marking was pretty much non-existent but it was Tschauner’s first and probably last ever goal in football and scoring goalkeepers are extremely rare so we’re not going to get too bogged down in the analysis.
A pretty good goalkeeper coming up for a corner clip then, but it still pales in comparison to our favourite ever example of the genre, even if a goal wasn’t scored on this occasion…
