Powerful stuff and a fitting tribute to the 96 on a day when the Hillsborough disaster will be particularly prominent in the minds of Liverpool fans and football fans alike.

Liverpool face Manchester City at Anfield today and while it is undoubtedly the biggest game of the Premier League season to date with both sides battling for the title, the fact that this weekend marks the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster will ensure that it is even more of a special occasion on Merseyside.

A series of touching tributes have been paid to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster already this weekend, from the floral tribute paid by Sheffield Wednesday to the 96 vacant seats at Wembley yesterday.

Closer to Anfield, a number of legends from Liverpool’s past, including Roy Evans, Kevin Keegan, Jan Molby, Ian St. John, Ronnie Whelan and Jason McAteer all featured in a very moving, poignant and emotional tribute to the Hillsborough victims put together by the folks at BeIN Sports, which was posted on YouTube by former Sky Sports host Richard Keys earlier today.

In the video, all of the aforementioned Liverpool greats recite lines from the famous anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, which will be sung again with great gusto on Merseyside a little later this afternoon as the home fans pay tribute to the 96 a quarter of a century on from one of the darkest days in the history of English football.

Never forget.
