Manchester City’s Serbian full-back was very lucky to stay on the pitch last night after catching West Brom’s Gabriel Tamas with a boot around the ear.

With the Fergie rumour breaking just after the final whistle at the Etihad, this story may have escaped your attention but as head-high challenges go, this is a bad one.

A loose ball popped up between Aleksander Kolorov and Gabrial Tamas and as the West Brom man went to head it, Kolorov went to kick it. The City defender caught Tamas around the ear with the sole of his boot and in the aftermath of red cards for Bobby Zamora and Nani for similar incidents in recent weeks, you have to conclude that Kolorov as lucky to stay on the pitch.

Kolorov was booked by referee Phil Dowd and Tamas was left with a nasty cut on the back of his head. A red for Kolorov would have ruled him out of the FA Cup final on Saturday so maybe Dowd took pity on him. With 23 minutes gone when the incident happened, it could have changed the game if Kolorov was dismissed too. In the end, City won 1-0.

Anyway, as we said earlier, with the other football news today, we don’t expect much of an outcry on this one.
