He didn’t score a cracker against them like he did in 2004, but Steven Gerrard certainly enjoyed himself during his testimonial against Olympiacos at Anfield today.

Instead, Gerrard left the scoring to midfield partners Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson as the Reds continued their preparations for pre-season and the Anfield faithful got the opportunity to pay tribute to their greatest player in the Premier League era and one of the greatest players to have ever played for the club.

Allen tapped in from an Iago Aspas cross to give Liverpool the lead in the first half and substitute Jordan Henderson scored with his first touch just after the hour mark to give Liverpool a 2-0 victory, with Reds legends Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher also making cameos at Anfield.

Luis Suarez, incidentally, was given a rousing reception from the crowd when he appeared as a substitute but the day belonged to Gerrard, who might be 33 but who is showing no sign of slowing down just yet.
