We’ve seen some terrible, terrible open goal misses in our time but we think that this is up there with the worst of the lot.
Willian Ribeiro, come on down. You may not have heard of this lad before but you can guarantee you’ll be seeing him in football blooper reels over and over again after he was guilty of one of the worst misses of all time during Campinense’s clash with Atletico de Cajazeiras in Brazil recently.
You know how they sometimes say that a striker in a one-on-one with a goalkeeper has too much time to think about what he’s going to do? Well, if you take the goalkeeper out of that equation Ribeiro was in a similar situation and having rounded the keeper outside the edge of the box, he proceeded to knock it wide of an empty net from 18 yards out.
For shame, Willian, for shame.
