It’s been a tough week for the people of Boston, but thousands of them pulled together to deliver a hugely emotional version of the national anthem at the Boston Bruins game last night.

Sport can often seem like an inconsequential concern after events such as the tragic bombings in Boston last week, but it can also help to lift people in times of need.

The Boston Bruins hosted the Buffalo Sabres in the TD Garden last night and considering it was the first major sporting event in the city since the Boston Marathon on Monday, it was always going to be a hugely emotional occasion for everyone involved.

Before the game started, singer Rene Rancourt took to the ice to sing the national anthem and only a few seconds after he had started, he stopped as the crowd took over.

What followed will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck…

Stirring stuff.
