Video: Anything Ronaldinho can do, Andy Reid can do better

JOE

Charlton’s goalkeeper not quite so Athletic last night.

It may not be on quite the same stage as Ronaldinho’s famous free-kick lob over David Seaman, but it was a long range goal none the less as Andy Reid scored the opened for Nottingham Forest in their 1-1 draw away at Charlton.

The Dubliner celebrated his recall to the Irish squad with a goal after just 124 seconds, a goal manager Billy Davies said afterwards came “too early” for the visitors. We’d argue the problem lay in the equaliser rather than the early lead, but let us not stand in the way of a well trodden cliché.

His left-footed inswinger was from near the touchline, but caught keeper Ben Hamer out as it sailed into the net for Reid’s fifth goal of the season as he continues his impressive start to the new campaign. And whether he meant it or not, just like with the Samba star in 2002, we will never know.

His goalscoring exploits are nothing new of course and he is the fourth highest scorer in the current Irish squad despite an absence of five years.

A few against Germany and Kazakhstan would do just nicely Andy.
