Becks became the second English man to see red in Ligue 1 this season after Joey Barton was sent off for Marseilles earlier in the campaign, though the referee made this decision based on intent rather than any actual contact.

Marco Verrati went for an early bath after a second bookable offence in the 81st minute, but not long after his introduction to the game, the former English captain soon joined him. A separate bath we would imagine.

After the final whistle of PSG’s 1-0 win, their goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu was also dismissed along with Evian striker Saber Khelifa, but it is Beckham’s red mist that will be the main talking point.

Barton himself was on Twitter last night – that makes for a change – to add that the dismissal was coming considering the way he has played since he arrived in France. He also joined in with suggestions that he and Becks are undergoing some kind of personality reversal.

Beckham looked perplexed by the decision and tried to protest in vein before being led down the tunnel.

We hope the French FA don’t land him with a hefty fine, the poor fella has donated all his wages to charity and won’t be able to pay up if they decide to punish him further.
