The Everton chairman delivered a speech at the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield today that was pretty much perfect.
Liverpool, the club, continue to campaign, rightly, for justice for the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster. Liverpool, the city, do too. That was epitomised by Everton chairman, and Scouser, Bill Kenwright, who spoke at today’s memorial service on the 24th anniversary of the tragedy.
Kenwright spoke about his time as a kid on the Kop, his feelings on the day of the tragedy a on April 15 1989 and the impact it had, and continues to have, on his life.
The rivalry between the clubs never comes into it in this speech and the sight of some of the mothers of the victims in tears as he speaks is heartbreaking.
