Video: Celtic’s Mo Bangura gives an epically awkward interview to Sky

Set to face his parent club again tonight for loan club Elfsborg, Celtic’s Mo Bangura, and a press officer, give a very awkward pre-match interview.

The situation Mo Bangura is in is very difficult and not of his own making. The Sierra Leone striker was loaned to Swedish side Elfsborg for one year in January 2013. But the deal never included a clause where he would be ineligible to play if the two sides met.

So, of course, the footballing gods drew the two sides together in the Champions League qualifiers, leaving Bangura in a very tricky position. Last week Bangura did play for the Swedes as Celtic won 1-0 at Parkhead. In fairness, he didn’t do much.

The return leg is on this evening in Sweden and Sky Sports News sent a reporter to interview Bangura about the awkward spot he was in. Elfsborg, perhaps fearful of inflaming the situation, had a member of their press department on hand to intervene, which she does regularly in the brief interview.

The entire clip is hard to watch but the final sections, when asked what he would do if he scored and knocked Celtic out, are ‘watch through your hands’ awkward.
