Ever sat down to watch Sylvester Stallone’s iconic 1976 film Rocky and thought to yourself, “this film really needs more musical numbers?”

Well, you’re not alone because Stallone has announced that he’s bringing Rocky: The Musical to Broadway in February 2014 and JOE’s hoping the tunes have got some great hooks.
The story may sound new to you but maybe this rings a bell – Having teamed up with world champion boxers/musical producers (what?) Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko in 2011, Rocky: the Musical (or to give it its German title, Rocky: Das Musical), has been doing phenomenally well in Germany already.
That fact isn’t really that surprising considering that this is the country that inexplicably worships David Hasselhoff after all.
Before we pass any below-the-belt comments about the hilarious idea of a musical adaptation of the film, let’s not forget that the iconic underdog tale actually bagged Stallone the only Oscar of his career so far, so the story isn’t punching above its weight as much as people might think. Plus there’s the fact that there’s already been an excellent online musical synopsis of Rocky IV which you can watch here.
Have a sneak peek at the musical below and a few words from Rocky himself. Don’t worry, he doesn’t sing.
Admittedly, when the iconic Bill Conti Rocky theme music kicked in, JOE got some (incredibly manly) goosebumps:
Rocky The Musical won’t be open until February 2014 and unfortunately it’s being staged at the Winter Garden Theatre. JOE was hoping it was going to be the Apollo.
