Video: Did Mary Lou McDonald really say ‘what a d*ck’ in the Dáil last week?

Mary Lou was not in good form in the chamber, asking why one of her fellow TDs was smirking in her direction – cue a grin from ear to ear from Enda Kenny – and her exasperation was complete when she was interrupted. Hardly an unusual occurrence in Leinster House, but one that brought what sounds like quite a muttering from the Sinn Fein politician.

For all the world it appears that she says “what a di*k” and clearly shows her annoyance at being interjected. Something that Mary Lou herself would never do of course.

Interestingly enough, after the famous Paul Gogarty rant where he used language that wasn’t becoming of a TD,a lot was made of what is acceptable in the Dáil, with the Irish Independent publishing a list of banned words, of which ‘di*k’ and ‘fu*k’ are not mentioned, perhaps as the list dates from older, simpler times. Here is the list in full.
