Video: Easily the best free-kick routine you’ll see this week and possibly all year

So far, 2013 has been a year for some jaw-dropping free-kick routines and this is one is certainly up there with the best of them.

So far, 2013 has been a year for some jaw-dropping free-kick routines and this is one is certainly up there with the best of them.

Unfortunately, we have little idea of the team or the players responsible for the free-kick and the footage is grainy at best, but not grainy enough that it should detract from your appreciation of what is a brilliantly-worked set-piece.

With three players lining up on the edge of the box, it looks for all the world that the man over the ball is going to chip it for his colleague to his left, but instead scoops it up and over his head to the guy standing behind him, who volleys it spectacularly to the net.

A thread on Reddit Soccer, where we stumbled across the video, suggests that the scooped assist may not be entirely legal but we’re not so sure (Did Mark Noble not do something similar to set-up a chance for Kevin Nolan in the West Ham v Spurs game recently?) and besides, who’d want to see a goal like disallowed?

Something for you and your Sunday league team-mates to give a whirl this weekend.
