Well, this was inevitable wasn’t it? Still funny, mind.
As soon as Emmanuel Adebayor sent his penalty skyward in Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Basel last night, you had a feeling that it would soon be given the same treatment as hilariously bad penalties taken by the likes of Charlie Adam and Sergio Ramos recently and the good people of the internet haven’t let us down.
Although Adebayor wasn’t directly responsible for Spurs’ Europa League exit, the casual manner in which he missed his spot-kick meant that he was on the receiving end of the majority of the blame last night, with Twitter users making a wide range of suggestions under the hashtag #thingsmoreusefulthanadebayor.

The idea in the video above is an oldie but it’s also a goodie and while Adebayor may yet redeem himself from 12 yards – Ramos did score with a cheeky ‘panenka’ penalty in the semi-final of the Euros last summer not long after his terrible miss for Real Madrid – we’d wager it will be a long time before he’s on penalty-taking duty for Spurs once again.
