We’ll be seeing a lot of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher this season and in a special Premier League preview last night, they examined how David Moyes will impose himself on Manchester United in his first season at the club.

Moyes has already got a taste of the size of the task involved in managing Manchester United compared to Everton and in terms of pre-season results and forays into the transfer market, it hasn’t exactly gone swimmingly for the Scot so far.

The real test starts next week when the Premier League gets underway and on a Premier League preview show last night, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher spent five minutes discussing how the Champions might play under their new boss.

As a former United man, Neville was insistent that Moyes is duty bound to stay faithful to the traditions and style of play at the club, that he is ‘a passenger on a ship, the ship doesn’t change’ and that he would be ‘moving mountains’ if he didn’t play with an emphasis on width, a hallmark of United teams under the Ferguson era and even before his arrival at the club.

Carragher joined in what was quite a technical discussion on how Moyes would utilise his wide men this season and seemed at ease in Neville’s company and pretty adept at the use of the fancy tactics board as well.

For United fans, it was a very interesting debate about what awaits in the new season while for everyone else it offered an insight into how Neville and Carragher will fare alongside each other this season and the early signs are encouraging.

More of the same for the next ten months or so lads.
