Any game between Manchester United and Liverpool is a big occasion but even though tonight’s encounter is only in the Capital One Cup, it is that bit more significant as it marks the return of Luis Suarez in his first game back since a ten-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic at the end of last season.
As if Brendan Rodgers saying that Suarez was ‘chomping at the bit to get back’ wasn’t bad enough, Gary Neville added to the inevitable biting references by saying that he wanted to see ‘a bit of bite’ in the game at Old Trafford this evening.
It was a line immediately picked up by Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp alongside Neville in the Sky studio, even if Neville tried to defend himself by saying he wasn’t clever enough to do it intentionally.
