Yes, we’ve had an awful lot of Alex Ferguson related content on the site today, but Gary Neville’s opinion is always worth a listen.
Ferguson’s retirement was one of the biggest stories in recent football history and as a result, every Tom, Dick and Harry with any sort of connection to Ferguson himself or to Manchester United was rolled out on Sky Sports News and various other stations to give their thoughts on his decision to step down.
Not many of said Tom, Dick and Harrys had anything particularly insightful to say but Neville can always be relied upon to provide an interesting viewpoint and few know Ferguson the man or the club better than the former United defender, who played in the first team under the 71-year old for well over a decade.
The Neviller didn’t officially say that David Moyes would succeed Ferguson but it wasn’t hard to see that he, like everyone else, knows it’s going to happen and he seemed to think that it would be a sensible appointment.
Because it was Geoff Shreeves he was talking to, we’re surprised that Neville wasn’t coerced into crying on camera but you can see what he had to say on Fergie’s decision prior to the Chelsea v Spurs game in the video below.
