Obviously thinking that saving a penalty wasn’t heroic enough, a Portuguese goalkeeper followed it up with a goal from his own box to salvage a draw for his side at the weekend.
Whether it’s for hitching a lift back to their own box on a motorbike or scoring dramatic late equalisers goalkeepers have been in the headlines quite a lot recently, but few of them will ever match the feats of one Bruno Fonseca, whose contribution to Águias da Musgueira’s draw with Lourel at the weekend will be remembered for years to come.
Faced with a penalty that would have put his side two goals behind, Fonseca saved the spot-kick and a follow-up effort and then watched in delight as his booming kick down the field hopped over the opposing ‘keeper and into the net for the most unlikely of equalisers.
Fonseca was certainly helped by a deceptive bounce and the fact that the game was played on an incredibly waterlogged pitch, but goals scored by goalkeepers deserve to be celebrated in style and Fonseca and his teammates certainly did that afterwards.
