Imagine how cool this camera on an umpire would be in a hurling or football match…

Apparently it is a regular occurrence in the AFL in Australia, but this is completely alien to us GAA fans. I mean, a camera not in the Hogan Stand in Croke Park, the thought is just too scary to comprehend.

In this really cool video you can see all the incidents in an AFL game from the umpire’s point of view including a contentious goal decision, some incidents of foul play and some astounding catches that look even better from ground level.

How many times do off the ball incidents happen between the full-back and full-forward line and the spectators both at the game and at home are at a loss to know what happened? This could be a great thing to bring in to solve that problem for viewers.

JOE really wants the GAA and RTE to get on top of this and trial it out next year, either on the referee or on the umpires. Take a look at the video below and let us know if you agree or not…
