The one and only Cristiano Ronaldo has given an interview to CNN where he declares that he is better than Lionel Messi. We think he’s joking but...
While Lionel Messi finally gets a summer off to recover after his Herculean feats these past few seasons, the only man to get anywhere close to him in terms of ridiculous stats is prepping for Euro 2012.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be the man all of Portugal look to this summer as they attempt to get out of a very tricky group with Germany, Holland and Denmark. But despite all their record-breaking antics, both Messi and Ronaldo get grief, from the likes of Pele, for not winning anything at international level.
Ronnie can solve that this summer and get one over on his great La Liga rival. But when asked on CNN this week about the magical Argentinian, Ronnie wasn’t ready to give Messi the title of the world’s greatest.
When asked if he gets sick of being compared to Messi, the former Manchester United man says: "Sometimes (the comparisons with Messi) makes me tired ... for him too because they compare us together all the time.
"You cannot compare a Ferrari with a Porsche because it's a different engine. You cannot compare them. He does the best things for Barcelona, I do the best things for Madrid.
"I think we push each other sometimes in the competition, this is why the competition is so high.”
And when asked if he is a better player than Messi, Ronaldo tries to make a joke of it.
"Some people say I'm better, other people say it's him, but at the end of the day, they're going to decide who is the best player. At the moment ... I think it is me," he adds with a laugh but we wonder if he was really joking.
Anyway, at the Euros, Ronaldo will come face-to-face with a player who is sure he is better than him and Messi; Nicklas Bendtner.
Watch the full interview for yourself above and make your own mind up if Ronaldo was really joking.
