Video: Have you heard the Sean Cavanagh song yet?

We expect an Aidan O’Shea song to be recorded by the end of the day...

We expect an Aidan O’Shea song to be recorded by the end of the day…

Tyrone’s march from an Ulster first round defeat to an All-Ireland semi-final has been one of the stories of the Championship. Easily their stand-out player in that run has been midfielder Sean Cavanagh, who has reminded everyone this summer that when he is fully fit he is one of the very best players in the country.

The Tyrone star would probably be even higher in the betting for Footballer of the Year if it wasn’t for his now infamous ‘tackle’ on Monaghan’s Conor McManus. That foul stopped a clear goal chance for Monaghan at a crucial time and sent Joe Brolly off on one of the all-time great rants.

But there is no mention of that tackle, or the Derry pundit, in this loving tribute to the Moy man by Datsun Donaghy. Set to the tune of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Boxer, this song instead lauds Cavanagh’s shimmy, eye for goal and makes mention of him having a ‘six pack on his six pack’.

With the build-up to Tyrone/Mayo really kicking into gear today, we expect to hear this song quite a few times before Sunday.

Thanks to Jerome Quinn (@JeromeQuinn), who also put the video together, for sending our way.
