Post-match interviews are often mundane with managers trotting out clichés to worn out questions. Jose Mourinho however doesn’t do mundane, as Jamie Redknapp found out to his cost.
Despite all the talk of the worst start of a Chelsea manager under Roman Abramovich, the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Fulham yesterday saw them return to the top of the table, momentarily at least, and The Special One was in bullish form.
Sky Sports pundit Redknapp, like many others it must be said, was struggling to understand why Juan Mata can’t get into the side and Mourinho, who claimed he had watched the pre-match analysis, was only too happy to explain his decision while displaying some of the best passive aggression you are likely to see.
“I think you are very good, but Chelsea manager is not Jamie Redknapp,” he says with a smirk.

And Ruud Gullit didn’t escape his attention either. In an interview with the press afterwards, he was asked to comment on the Dutchman’s suggestion that personal differences lie at the heart of the Mata issue.
“Ruud Gullit is a different pundit because he was also a manager. And I think he shouldn’t be a very proud manager for what he did in the last few years. So I don’t want to comment.”
