You have to feel sorry for Stephen Gionta here, who gets flung into the opponent’s interchange bench before getting shoved out on his arse.
When you are 5’7” tall and weigh just under 13 stone you are going to have a tough time in the NHL. The top Ice Hockey league in the world is populated with very big players these days, and when they hit you, you tend to stay hit, especially if you’re that small.
Over the weekend the New Jersey Devils Stephen Gionta suffered a double humiliation against the Florida Panthers.
First Dimitri Kulikov expertly hip checked off the ice and into the Panthers bench. That was bad enough but as Gionta clambered back to the ice TJ Brennan gave him a little shove ensuring that he landed on his arse.
We probably shouldn’t laugh but it is funny.
