The NHL playoffs are on and one big mid-ice hit produced an awful lot of blood in Montreal last night.
Last night the Ottawa Senators played the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal. As rivalries go it’s not the hottest in the NHL but any time two Canadian teams meet, especially in the play-offs, it’s going to be spicy.
This hit is the big talking point of the game that was ultimately won by the Senators 4-2. A dictionary definition hospital pass was played to Dane Lars Eller and he was expertly lined up by Eric Gryba.
We have watched this many times and we just can’t tell if it is a clean hit or not. It looks like it but the sheer force of Gryba’s hit, and the follow through, meant that poor old Eller was passed out before he hit the hit the ice. With his face.
That extra impact produced a torrent of blood, as you can see below.
The good news is that Eller is okay, while Gryba was thrown out of the game and faces a disciplinary meeting today.
