While we don’t think it would work quite as well, we want this introduced to Irish television as soon as possible.
Can you imagine filling your car up with petrol down at the local Topaz only to be surprised by somebody from the Late Late Show challenging you, with little or no warning, to sing in front of a huge television audience?
We suspect that you, like us, would run a mile, but thankfully a couple in the US took on the challenge head when faced with a similar predicament recently.
The man of the couple was filling his car with gas in the US recently when Jack Rafferty of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno appeared on a camera in front of him and challenged him to sing in front of all the customers at the petrol station and, more significantly, an audience of millions on television.
It could have gone Pete Tong for the man in question but he responded admirably with a belting and kind of hilarious version on Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ while his better half joined with her own version of the Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams’ shortly after.
Like we said, we’re not sure if such an approach in this country would elicit a similar response, but we’d love to see somebody try it, for the laugh and inevitable cringe-worthy results if nothing else.
